Philip Wind Energy Center
The Philip Wind Energy Center in Haakon County, South Dakota will generate clean, American-made energy to meet the nation's growing electricity demand. This project will capture the superior wind resource in South Dakota, enabling the delivery of low cost wind energy to local communities.
At peak construction, the Philip Wind Energy Center will employ as many as 200 people. After construction, the project will employ up to 20 additional permanent operations and maintenance (O&M) staff.
The Philip Wind Energy Center would provide millions in local taxes, land, and lease payments to the community throughout the life of the project, leading to impactful social and economic benefits in the area.
Haakon County and the State of South Dakota will receive annual payments throughout the life of the project. Philip Wind will pay both a production tax and a nameplate capacity tax, which will result in over $44 million in total tax revenue funding local infrastructure, fire & EMS services, schools, and more.
“This (wind project) was the first and only thing that money from somebody else comes into our community. It has been a real economic boom for the county, with local schools benefiting directly from the project and it's tax revenue.” - Jim Koenig, Invenergy Landowner
